<p>È ancora una volta motivo di grande onore e soddisfazione annunciare la
disponibilità di FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE. Fondata sul successo di FreeBSD
5.1, questa release include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Completo supporto Tier-1 per sistemi monoprocessore e multiprocessore AMD
Athlon64 e Opteron.</li>
<li>Partizione di root linkata dinamicamente per una installazione base meno
ingombrante e una migliore integrazione con il sottosistema Name Service
Switch.</li>
<li>Un nuovo e ben più efficiente supporto driver per dispositivi IDE,
SATA e 802.11a/b/g e una migliore integrazione con il sottosistema di
gestione dell'energia ACPI.</li>
<li>Supporto a livello client per la versione 4 del Network File System.</li>
<li>Supporto sperimentale di primo stadio per capacità di filtraggio e
di inoltro multi-thread del traffico IP. Inoltre tutto ciò fornisce
la base per una completa implementazione di uno stack di rete multi-thread
nella prossima release di FreeBSD.</li>
<li>Supporto per le ultime versioni degli ambienti desktop Gnome 2.4 e KDE
3.1.</li>
</ul>
<p>Inoltre FreeBSD 5.2 contiene numerosi e significativi miglioramenti per
quanto concerne stabilità e prestazioni rispetto a FreeBSD 5.1. Tuttavia,
è ancora da considerare una release contenente "Nuove Tecnologie" e
potrebbe non essere adeguata a tutti gli utenti. Gli utenti con
necessità più conservative potrebbero preferire continuare ad utilizzare

<p>FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE supporta le architetture i386, pc98, alpha, sparc64,
amd64, e ia64 e può essere installato direttamente via rete usando i
dischetti di boot oppure può essere copiato da un server locale NFS/FTP.
Le distribuzioni per tutte le architetture sono disponibili fin da ora.</p>
