* Remove residual blank line at start of MakefileWarner Losh2024-07-151-1/+0

| | | | | | | | Remove ancient SCCS tags from the tree, automated scripting, with two minor fixup to keep things compiling. All the common forms in the tree were removed with a perl script. Sponsored by: Netflix

* cpuset(8): move to /bin/Enji Cooper2023-08-111-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: This change moves /usr/bin/cpuset to /bin/cpuset so it is more readily available on hosts where the /usr partition might not be mounted at the time / has been mounted. Remove some complexity from rc.subr(8) since /bin is assumed to always be present if/when / is mounted. * timeout: Move from /usr/bin to /binMateusz Piotrowski2023-02-021-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | timeout(1) is used by /etc/rc.d/zfskeys. Unfortunately, having timeout(1) installed in /usr/bin causes problems when /usr is an encrypted ZFS partition. Implementing timeout(1) in sh(1) is not trivial. A more elegant solution is to move timeout(1) to /bin so that it is available to early services in the boot process. * Remove rcmds.Jeremie Le Hen2017-10-061-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If they are still needed, you can find them in the net/bsdrcmds port. This was proposed June, 20th and approved by various committers [1]. They have been marked as deprecated on CURRENT in r320644 [2] on July, 4th. Both stable/11 and release/11.1 contain the deprecation notice (thanks to allanjude@). Note that ruptime(1)/rwho(1)/rwhod(8) were initially thought to be part of rcmds but this was a mistake and those are therefore NOT removed. * Remove SUBDIR ordering/uniquifying in *bin/MakefileEnji Cooper2017-07-061-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After the addition of SUBDIR.yes, uniquifying/ordering the SUBDIRs doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and it's in effect a half measure. Ordering SUBDIR (after adding SUBDIR.yes to it) in bsd.subdir.mk is a separate change that warrants more discussion/testing, because while the SUBDIR_PARALLEL work largely fixed dependency ordering for SUBDIRs, there might be downstream FreeBSD consumers that rely on the SUBDIR ordering. Apply this option to a selected number of Makefiles, which can greatly speed up the build on multi-core machines, when using make -j. This can be extended to more Makefiles later on, whenever they are verified to work correctly with parallel building. I tested this on a 24-core machine, with make -j48 buildworld (N = 6): before stddev after stddev ======= ====== ======= ====== real time 1741.1 16.5 959.8 2.7 user time 12468.7 16.4 14393.0 16.8 sys time 1825.0 54.8 2110.6 22.8 (user+sys)/real 8.2 17.1 E.g. the build was approximately 45% faster in real time. On machines with less cores, or with lower -j settings, the speedup will not be as impressive. But at least you can now almost max out a machine with buildworld! * Migrate tools/regression/bin/ tests to the new layout.Julio Merino2013-12-111-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This change is a proof of concept on how to easily integrate existing tests from the tools/regression/ hierarchy into the /usr/tests/ test suite and on how to adapt them to the new layout for src. To achieve these goals, this change: - Moves tests from tools/regression/bin/<tool>/ to bin/<tool>/tests/. - Renames the previous regress.sh files to legacy_test.sh. - Adds Makefiles to build and install the tests and all their supporting data files into /usr/tests/bin/. - Plugs the legacy_test test programs into the test suite using the new TAP backend for Kyua (appearing in 0.8) so that the code of the test programs does not have to change. - Registers the new directories in the BSD.test.dist mtree file.
